Uploading Images

You upload images from the Admin Index. You need to click on the link marked Upload New Images. This presents you with a form with room to upload five different pictures at a time. PixWire has up to three different size of image. The smallest is the thumbnail, then there is the preview size which is big enough to see what's the picture is about, and the biggest is the full size image which is big enough for publication. The full size image is password protected.

PixWire allows you to create the thumbnails and the preview images automatically from the full sized image. The full sized image must be a JPEG if you want to use this option. Or you can choose to do it yourself. Unchecking the tick box marked “Create Preview Automatically” allows you to browse for a preview image on your hard disk. There is a similar option for thumbnails.

If you are using automatic creation of previews and thumbnails, you can adjust their height from the system defaults. However, we recommend that you have all your thumbnails the same size in each gallery because it looks better.

You then need to give the image a name on your server. The Suggest button will fill this field in with a suitable name based on the original filename, or you can type in something else. Valid image names should only contain letters, numbers, spaces and dashes. They should not contain other characters such as “/”, “\”, “*”, “?” etc. If you do use non-standard characters, you run the risk of them not working when people try to view your pictures. Even though they may work on your system, they might not work on someone else's. Image names beginning with “f_” and “t_” are reserved for system use.

The next option is to use the IPTC caption as the picture's caption in the gallery. This can always be modified or reset later if you wish.

The final option is a pull-down list of the target gallery. Simply select the gallery you want the image to go into.

When you ready to upload your pictures, click on the Commit Changes button at the bottom. This will then take you to a screen confirming which images have been uploaded, with the option of then emailing them to your customers.
