This option allows you to check the permissions of the files on your website. Linux is a multi-user operating system, so files belong to specific users and their permissions can be set to allow other users to read or write them. Pixwire ensures that all your files have the correct permissions. However, if you use external programs to create directories or to upload files, there is a real risk that the permissions will be incorrect. This is why we strongly recommend that the Pixwire interface be used for uploading pictures.
Full size photos and the administration functions on Pixwire are protected by passwords. The standard webserver password functionality is used to do that. The configuration file is called .htaccess. When Pixwire is installed, this will be set up correctly and this step should be unnecessary.
However, it is possible using other tools to overwrite the .htaccess file losing the Pixwire settings. Some ISPs provide a web interface to allow you to password protect directories. Using these tools will almost certainly break Pixwire's password protection. This option allows you to write back the correct settings into the .htaccess file.
This allows you to view the license information for your Pixwire installation. Pixwire is licensed on a per company and per user basis. If you require additional users, new email addresses or a different web address, please contact Poynting Computers.
