Setting Up Your Website

With our installation service, the software will be already installed. The first thing you need to do is to set up some top level galleries. This is done from the administration index, so you need to go to your website and click on the Admin Index link from the main index. You will then be asked for a username and password. The username for all administration tasks is “admin”. Your password was supplied to you when you purchased PixWire.

PixWire organises the galleries into several top level galleries. This allows you to organise your pictures into logical categories. So you may have a top level gallery called “Sport” and another one called “Celebrity Images”. Associated with each top level gallery is a thumbnail. These thumbnails are not compulsory, but they do make the site look much more attractive. They are 100 pixels by 100 pixels. They can be created in a suitable graphics package such as Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro.

Once you've created some suitable thumbnails, click on the link marked “Gallery Administration”. The first form on this page is entitled “Create Top Level Gallery”. Simply choose a suitable name for the gallery and use the browse button to locate your thumbnail on your disk if you have one. You then have the option to create “recent” and “archive” sub-galleries under the top level gallery. Sub-galleries called either “recent” or “Recent” can contain pictures. Sub-galleries called anything else contain further sub-galleries, which themselves contain pictures. By convention, we suggest that you use the names “recent” and “archive”. The rationale behind this is that the “recent” gallery will contain your latest pictures. When they are no longer current, you can move them to a suitable sub-gallery in your archive, or simply delete them if you wish.

Once you've filled in the form, simply click on the button marked “Create Gallery”. You should then be taken to a confirmation screen which should contain no errors. You may want to go back to your main index and click on the “Our Galleries” link to check it has worked.

Repeat the gallery creation step for each of the top-level galleries you want. You are now ready to upload images, setup your user passwords and edit your email addresses.
