Gallery Administration

This is accessed from the Admin Index. There are four forms on this page, with four different functions.

Create Top Level Gallery

Top level galleries allow you to organise your pictures into logical categories. So you may have a top level gallery called “Sport” and another one called “Celebrity Images”. Associated with each top level gallery is a thumbnail. These thumbnails are not compulsory, but they do make the site look much more attractive. They are 100 pixels by 100 pixels. They can be created in a suitable graphics package such as Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro.

Once you've created some suitable thumbnails, click on the link marked “Gallery Administration”. The first form on this page is entitled “Create Top Level Gallery”. Simply choose a suitable name for the gallery and use the browse button to locate your thumbnail on your disk if you have one. You then have the option to create “recent” and “archive” sub-galleries under the top level gallery. Sub-galleries called either “recent” or “Recent” can contain pictures. Sub-galleries called anything else contain further sub-galleries, which themselves contain pictures. By convention, we suggest that you use the names “recent” and “archive”. The rationale behind this is that the “recent” gallery will contain your latest pictures. When they are no longer current, you can move them to a suitable sub-gallery in your archive, or simply delete them if you wish.

Once you've filled in the form, simply click on the button marked “Create Gallery”. You should then be taken to a confirmation screen which should contain no errors.

Create Sub Gallery

This form allows you to create sub galleries. Galleries are organised as shown in the diagram below:

                                top-level gallery
                                 | |
                                 | |
                              recent archive
                            sub-gallery sub-gallery
                                 | | |
                                 | | |
                              pictures | sub-gallery2
                                          | |
                                    sub-gallery1 |
                                          | |
                                          | pictures
                                          |
                                      pictures

In this diagram, you would be allowed to create sub-galleries under the top-level gallery and the archive sub-gallery, but not under sub-gallery1, sub-gallery2 or the recent sub-gallery. “recent” sub-galleries are treated as a special case. Any gallery that is not called “recent” or “Recent” and is under a top-level gallery is treated as an archive gallery.

To create the sub-gallery, simply type in the name you want, pick where you want it to go and click on the Create Gallery button.

Upload TopLevel Gallery Thumbnail

This form allows you to upload a thumbnail to be associated with a top-level gallery. This allows you to change the thumbnails. They should be 100x100 pixels. Browse to the thumbnail on your local disc and click the Upload File button.

Delete Gallery

This form allows you to delete a gallery and everything under it including sub-galleries and pictures. Once you have confirmed that you wish to delete, everything is irrevocably lost. It cannot be recovered. There is no Trash Can from which to recover.

You pick the gallery to delete and click on the Delete Gallery button. You are then taken to a screen showing all the images that will be deleted and asked to confirm the deletion.
